Marne is building on the future

The climate-smart wall is part of a series of sustainable and circular solutions with which Marne Mosterd wants to contribute to a green society. The wall has been handed over to the children of the employees by the children's mayor, because they represent the future and want to involve them in this way.know the importance of biodiversity and healthy food.

Opening

On Wednesday afternoon, Marne Mosterd opened the new Green Wall on the site of the mustard factory in the presence of employees and stakeholders. Commercial manager Epke Bouma wants to contribute to society with this sustainable solution. “Some of Marne Mosterd's core values are respect for people and the environment and commitment. Based on these values, we started a pilot for a green wall together with Save Lodge.

This is completely circular and is an addition to the series of previously realized sustainable solutions such as solar panels and reuse of waste flows,” says Bouma. Children's mayor Samuel opened the wall with a small speech and, together with two children of employees, placed the last plant that completes the wall. He then handed the wall over to the children of the employees. As future consumers, Marne would like to involve children in a better climate and healthy food.

Green wall

The Groningen start-up Save Lodge makes climate-smart walls for buildings and public spaces. The plant walls are made from plastic waste and can be used as part of office spaces, as a fence or partition wall. “In this way, people can ensure a better environment in their building or backyard and tackle the plastic waste problem,” says René Notenbomer, one of the initiators of Save Lodge. The planters are made from recycled plastic that would otherwise be burned. The soil in the planters is made from fermented green residual waste (e.g. mowing grass and green waste from ditches). The greenery in the containers removes CO2 from the air and ensures greening and cooling of cities. Ultimately, the intention is for customers, companies and private individuals, to purchase ready-made green walls and build them themselves. The plant wall at Marne mustard is one of the pilot projects and is part of the sustainability process of the factory for the mustard factory.

Marne Mustard

Marne Mosterd has a rich history. More than a century ago, three gentlemen started the factory near Kloosterburen to boost the local economy. In addition to employment, the factory also provided a sales channel for mustard seeds from local farmers. The mustard is in all Dutch supermarkets and is exported all over the world. Marne has always pursued an active CSR policy. In this way, waste water is saved, waste streams are given a second life, solar panels have been installed and mustard waste is processed into animal feed or biogas.

On April 11, 2017, we drove the first pile for the expansion of our logistics hall. With this expansion we will further shape our ambitions for the future: growth at a national and international level. The new construction will create more space in the existing hall to continue the craft within modern production techniques.

The first pile of this new hall was driven by our employee Rikus Hoving. Rikus had worked at Marne for 45 years, making him our most loyal and longest-serving employee.

Marne can boast a rich history where she has never left her roots in Groningen. Leaving Groningen has never been an option. By expanding the existing building on the current site, Marne also commits itself to Groningen for the future. A future that we look forward to with confidence!

The official opening took place in July 2018 and the hall has been in full use since then.
